4 Coats of finishing spray complete!

Why lock in the flag with finishing spray?

  • In the early stages, the flag is fragile and spraying several coats over top locks in the color and cleanness of the flag.

  • There will still be imperfections in the flag but they are minimized with the sealing coats of finish. Each flag comes from the factory with some flaws already and there is nothing that can be done about those, but all in all, it still looks very clean.

What did this cost?

Each P2K coat is approximately $10 in cost from not only the price of the finish but the disposable 3M cups I use. In the end, there will be approximately 25 coats of finish laid down.

What is the next stage?

Now that the flag is encapsulated, I will cut it into strips and then into the octagon section. Once that is complete, I will spray an additional 2 coats on each section with level sanding in between all coats.

Once that is competed, I will cut the 22.5 degree miters into each section and prepare for glue-up.

A lot can go wrong along the way so it's important to carefully think through each step. The further I go into the project, the more risk there is in making a mistake. ;-)
